Oxidation and Free Radicals

Oxidation is what happens to metal when it rusts or an apple when it turns brown. Unstable oxygen molecules called fee radicals steal electrons from other molecules in an attempt to become stable. In the process, the free radicals damage cells, shortening their life span and speeding up the aging process. Once oxidation begins it can be hard to stop. The consequences range from infections to various degenerative

conditions including heart disease, arthritis and cancer. Pollutants, chemicals and toxins, such as cigarette smoke are some of the dozens of things that are the cause of oxidation.
