The Dangers of Liquid Diets

Many people go on very-low-calorie diets do so without proper medical supervision. They are unaware that a VLCD is designed for people who are at least 30 percent over their ideal weight and are medically monitored. Diets such as Slim-Fast which advocate a shake as a meal replacement for breakfast and lunch only, but have a well nutritious sensible dinner are not dangerous. However a quick-loss over-the-counter liquid diet, substituting it for all meals,

can be a risk leading to the loss of too much muscle, bone, and lean body mass in proportion to fat. Possible heart arrhythmia, permanent slowed metabolism, fatigue and in extreme cases, even death may follow. My advice, diet for health and not for death.
